The Balance Sheet Template for Excel is a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet for
practitioners who wish to perform their own valuation and analysis but don't
wish to invest the significant time necessary to create the financial
statements.
It is designed to accommodate three periods of data, which can be entered from a
firm's 10-K or 10-Q report (10-K and 10-Q reports are publicly available reports
detailing a company's financial position). The spreadsheet comes pre-configured
to accept the most popular asset and liability categories, and is easily
expandable by anyone with a basic knowledge of Excel.
A common-size balance sheet is automatically calculated based on the input from
the 10-K and 10-Q reports. (Common-size balance sheets are used to show the
percentage of total assets and liabilities represented by each item in the
balance sheet.)
Date and number fields may be re-formatted by the user (using Excel's built-in
formatting capabilities) to accommodate non-US conventions.
